Bogota to Alto de Letras: one of the longest climb in the world

Our bike tour Bogotá to the Alto de Letras is a fantastic trip that we have on offer for those willing to challenge the mythical Alto de Letras with the best conditions. Find below all the details of our bike tour. Please note that should you want to make it longer (or slightly shorter), we can also adapt our itinerary to your need:

What’s included:

• 3 nights in Bogota in 3-star hotel Hampton by Hilton + 2 nights in Mariquita in Hotel La Gaviota Las Brisas or equivalent (an exception in Paipa) + breakfasts (base: double occupancy)
• Dinners in Mariquita
• 1 bike guide during all rides
• 1 driver / mechanic following the group during all rides
• 1 follow vehicle / possibility to jump in in case of tired legs
• All expenses of the guides (hotels / meals)
• Transfers: Bogotá airport -> Bogotá hotel -> Bogotá airport
• 1 Colombia Bike Tours cycling jersey and 1 polo
• Sports nutrition (liquid / bars / gels) and snacks (fruits, cookies, etc.)
• Possibility to travel with a non-rider (10% discount on the package)

What is not included:

• Everything that is not mentioned in the plan
• Flights
• All lunches + dinners in Bogota
• Bike rental (check out our  prices)
• Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks during dinners (can be included from time to time)

ITINERARY:

Day 1

• Arrival in Bogota / pick-up at the airport / transfer to the hotel in Bogota / check-in
• Bike fitting / assembling with a mechanic if needed
• Or delivery of the rental bikes and fitting (if this option has been chosen)
• Dinner (at the hotel or nearby) and night in Bogota (Hotel**** BH Parque 93 or equivalent)

Day 2

• Meeting point: in front the hotel at 8:45am with our guide
• Bike ride: “Flag ride” -> 86km / 450m D+ / mostly flat (lowest point: 2600m / highest point: 2720m) or “Alto el Vino” -> 72km / 750m D+ (similar with a short climb)
• The idea is to get used to high altitude at easy pace before tackling Letras (very important for riders living at sea level)
• Estimated ride time: around 3 hours (easy pace)
• Dinner and 2^nd night in Bogota

Day 3

• Meeting point: in front the hotel at 8:45am with our guide
• Bike ride: “Vuelta a la Sabana” -> 84km / 750m D+ / flat in the first 50km – hilly in the end (lowest point: 2600m / highest point: 3020m)
• Estimated ride time: 3 hours and 15 minutes (easy pace)
• Dinner and 3^rd night in Bogota

Day 4

• Meeting point: in front the hotel at 9:30am with our guide and driver: leaving towards Mariquita (bottom of Letras) by car/minivan -> 4h travel time (lunch on the way)
• 1:30pm: check-in at Hotel Brisas La Gaviota in Mariquita
• 1h to 1h30 easy ride to spin the legs
• Early dinner and 1^st night in Mariquita

Day 5

• Meeting point: in front the hotel Brisas at 6:00am with our guide and driver
• Bike ride: “Alto de Letras” -> 82km / 3900m D+ / climb (lowest point: 485m / highest point: 3690m)
• Estimated ride time: 4 hours and a half to 6 hours depending on level
• Lunch either at Letras or on the way down at gas station (excellent typical dishes!)
• Travel back by car to the hotel in Mariquita after lunch
• Afternoon free (possibility to go to Honda to visit the colonial city centre and have dinner -> 20km drive)
• 2^nd night in Mariquita

Day 6

• Meeting point: in front the hotel at 8:00am
• Travel back to Bogota / expected arrival time: around noon
• End of circuit / transfer to Bogota airport (if needed)

Total rides:

• 275km / 5,100m vertical ascent
